SBI slashes interest rate

India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has reduced its lending rate by 25 basis points following the Reserve Bank’s policy rate cut, making loans cheaper for both existing and new borrowers. With the latest round of reduction, the Repo-Linked Lending Rate (RLLR) of SBI would come down by 25 basis points to 8.25 per cent. It has also reduced the External Benchmark Based Lending Rate (EBLR) by similar basis points to 8.65 per cent. The revised rates come into effect from April 15, 2025.

Haj quota reduced by 80%

the government of Saudi Arabia has significantly reduced the private Hajj quota for India by a staggering 80 percent. As per a new circular issued by the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), only 20 per cent of the private quota booked earlier will be given initial confirmation. This means that 80 per cent of those who signed up for the pilgrimage under the Combined Haj Group Organisers (CHGOs) face the risk of not being allowed on the pilgrimage.
The decision follow the closure of the Nusuk portal of the Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah.
